Your choices
When you first visit, a message from Google asks whether you agree to cookies being used for advertising and measurement. You can change your mind at any time with the Privacy and cookie settings link that Google shows at the bottom of the page.
If you don't agree, Google may still show ads, but they won't be personalised and won't use cookies to track you.
Cookies set by Google
| Service | What it does | More information |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdSense | Shows the adverts that help pay for this website. With your consent, it uses cookies to show ads that are more relevant to you and to limit how often you see the same ad. | How Google uses information from sites that use its services |
| Google Analytics | Tells us, in summary, how people use the site (for example which pages are read most), so we can improve it. With your consent, it uses cookies to recognise returning visitors. | Google Analytics and privacy |
You can also manage Google ad personalisation at myadcenter.google.com.
Our own visit counter
We also count page views with our own system, which doesn't use cookies. It records which page was viewed, roughly where the visit came from (for example "Google") and the country. It doesn't store your IP address or anything that could identify you. Visitors can be counted on a single day, but not followed from one day to the next.
Your browser keeps a note of when you last visited and how many visits you've made, so we can tell new visitors from returning ones. This stays on your device and contains no identifier. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, this counter is switched off.
Cloudflare
The site is protected by Cloudflare, which may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to tell people from automated bots. This doesn't track you and can't be switched off.
Site editors
People who edit the website sign in through GitHub. That sign-in uses browser storage on the editor's own device.
